Seeking God & Serving Others
our mission and our vision as a church
Our Mission
We are Seeking God diligently and Serving Others earnestly, trusting the Lord to give the increase steadily as we follow Him in the work He is doing.
The four elements of our church mission are based on the two commandments of Matthew 22:37-39 and the two commissions of Matthew 28:19-20.
1. "To love God" is the greatest commandment
"Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind. This is the first and greatest commandment". Matthew 22:37
2. "To love people" is the second greatest commandment
"And the second is like it, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'" Matthew 22:39
"But just as you excel in everything - in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in your love for us - see that you also excel in this grace of giving... For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that through he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich." 2 Corinthians 8:7-9
As an outward reflection of God's love, our mission is to love THE LORD and serve all the people - to earnestly give of ourselves to others.
3. "To go" to all people is the initial step in the great commission
"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, ..." Matthew 28:19
"Jesus said to them, 'My Father is always at his work to this day, and I, too, am working'". John 5:17
"'My food,' said Jesus, 'is to do the will of Him who sent me and to finish His work. Do you not say, 'Four months more and then the harvest'? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest'." John 4:34-36
Jesus also said that the Father is always at work, and he too is working, and we at Braddock Baptist Church have come to understand that when we see the Father at work, that is our invitation to join him. We are to complete the good work he has prepared in advance for us to do and, in doing so, we bring glory to His most excellent name.
4. "To become fully devoted to Jesus Christ" is the multiplication step of the great commission
"teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age". Matthew 28:20
"So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow". 1 Corinthians 3:7
Our mission as a church is to see God at work and to join Him. As we discipline ourselves to recognize God and step out in obedience, we "trust the Lord will give increase to His kingdom".
When we experience additions, we see this as our responsibility to teach individuals and families to follow Christ's example until God takes them somewhere else.
Our Vision
To continue to grow in our love with the triune (three in one) God: the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, by building ourselves up in the most holy faith, and to influence our community and the world with the message of Jesus Christ
In Romans 1:16-17, Paul says, "For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed - a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: 'The righteous will live by faith'".
At Braddock Baptist Church, we believe that a relationship with Jesus Christ is the only thing that can transform a person’s life. Our church is unashamedly dedicated to presenting this message in various ways and through many venues so that every person in our community and around the world, under our influence, is given a chance to understand it and come to salvation by faith.
